Don’t just get another job. Land the job you want. What we do for a living is pretty important. It pays our bills and takes up most of our time. When we don’t like our job, it just makes life much more boring.
In this post I am going to show you how to land the interview of your dreams. You can use some of or all of the tools as I lay them out. This is going to explain how to use a system to find a great job.
Tools:
Google Docs
Craigslist
Goldmail
LinkedIn
Step 1 – Setup
If you don’t already have a linkedIn account go and make one. It’s free. Ask your past employers to recommend you on the site. If you send them a nice email I am sure more often than not they will be more than happy to leave you a positive review. Don’t forget to link your Resume in the links section. You can host this on google docs for free.

Step 2 – Research
Now that you have your landing page in place, next you go to the hunting grounds; Craigslist. I have put many job offers out on craigslist and 95% of all the resumes that get sent to me are just trash with some canned email telling me they can’t wait for the opportunity to… Blah Blah Blah. The key here is to really laser focus on 2-3 postings that you think would be a really good fit for them. Next you have to research the company.
Answer some basic questions
Who is the CEO?
What individuals will be doing the hiring?
Who is going to be getting the resume?
What is the website URL?
How big is the company?
Who are their clients?
You may be asking yourself, “Why do I care about any of this?” You will see in the upcoming step.
Step 3 – Document
Create a google docs spreedsheet with all of this information.
Also add
Craigslist referance Link
Contact info
How you contacted them
When you followed up and how
Business Name
Did you get the interview?
By documenting this information you can track your progress and stay organized. Doing this is key so don’t get lazy. Your career is on the line here. Put the work into this now so you can land the job you want.
Step 4 – Killer Pitch
Now that you have all of this in place here comes the silver bullet. GoldMail is the best way to stand out and get follow up meetings and interviews. I use it all the time in business to get the point across and explain complex ideas.
Here is what you are going to do. With all the great information you have gathered you are going to go find a picture of the person you know is going to get your resume. In this case lets say it’s the CEO. Take a screen shot of the CEO as well as the website. Create a slideshow in GoldMail to show how you are ultra valuable. Reference your linkedIn profile and what great things people have said about you. Use pictures of the recommendations people have left you or examples of your work as you talk over all of this infomation.
The best part is at the end of your video you are able to ask them to click on the call to action link and go to your linkedIn profile to find out more and contact you. When the CEO gets an email of his face as the first slide with a big play button on top of it, he is going to watch it. That’s for sure.
Do this for a couple of weeks and you won’t be able to avoid finding a job you really enjoy.
If you liked the information In this post tell leave a comment in the area below. I am thinking about doing an over the shoulder post as I go though all the steps above so you can see me do it step by step. If I get enough feedback from everyone wanting that, I will do it.
